So, yes, I've decided to join in the blogging revolution (a bit late, I'll admit) but here I am! For those of you that know me, well I need no introduction. LOL! For those of you that don't know me, I am a 30-something year with two kids...three if you count my husband. :) Whoa, wait, did I say 30-something? When did that happen? Anyway...my oldest, Sean, is 6 and is not the biggest fan of fruits and vegetables. While searching the internet for solutions to that issue, I found http://greatbigvegchallenge.blogspot.com/ which is a really cool blog about this woman and her 7-year old veggie-phobic kid. They cooked their way through the alphabet. I ran this by Sean and he thought it would be fun. I told him we could make a scrapbook of our adventure, taking pictures of the veggies and our finished dishes, and putting the recipes in there. He thought that sounded good, but he also wants to make a TV show!! Have I mentioned that one of his favorite channels is The Food Network? Well, it is. When I said "challenge" he immediately thought of Iron Chef, and wanted to know who would be going up against us and who the judges would be!! I love that kid!!!

I figured why not put our adventure out there on a blog. It might be fun! I'll admit, I have a tendency to start these types of things and then tire of them (some of you may remember my brief try at MySpace...) but maybe since I have a 6-year-old helping me, I'll actually stick with it this time! And I thought "Alphabet Soup" sounded like a fun title for the blog. I think instead of just veggies, we'll do fruits too. Have I mentioned that I think my 7-month-old eats more fruits and veggies than his big brother? I have my work cut out for me...I hope you'll enjoy our journey!!

Thick and Chewy Snickerdoodles

I admit, I love snickerdoodles.   Cinnamon and vanilla?   Yes, please.   What’s funny is that I never really had them much as a kid, just occasionally in the school cafeteria.   I know, ew. Anyway, snickerdoodles were one of the first cookies that the Munchkin helped make when he was little.   He could help dump everything in the mixer (or “loud noise” as he would call it!) and then it was fun for him to roll the balls of dough in the cinnamon sugar before putting them on the baking sheet. Hello Dolly Cookie Bars

Several years ago, my mom gave me an old cookbook, it was hers but I'm not sure she ever used it, Favorite Recipes from Southern Kitchens:  Desserts .  I love this cookbook!  I thought it would be great to go through it and pick a recipe or two to use for this year's 12 Weeks of Christmas Treats series.  For this week, I chose a super easy one, Hello Dolly Cookies.  I have absolutely no idea where the name came from.  I'm really not sure I've ever eaten one before, though the ladies I shared the finished product with knew about them!  I did an internet search too, and it seems they go by a lot of names, including Magic Layer Bars.  Honestly, they are so easy to make.  There's no mixing required.  Kids could absolutely help with these.  The cookies smelled divine while they were baking, and I barely waited for them to cool before trying one. Life...

Photo Credit:  Garrett Farlow  via Flickr  You've heard the phrase “life is what happens when you’re busy making plans”, right?  Well, let me tell you, a whole lot of life has happened in the last two years.  I haven’t been blogging much, and while I’m not apologizing to anyone for that, I will say that I have missed it.  I want to try to get back into a routine, more for myself than anyone else.  Of course, I totally love it when others read what I write!  J   Summer is fast approaching and I’m very much looking forward to a new season and a new outlook.
